Where can I find the VIN number on a BMW?

According to BMWSections.com, the Vehicle Identification Number of a North American BMW vehicle is usually posted on the driver's side of the windshield or inside the driver's door. A common location in European BMW vehicles is the passenger's side of the windshield.

BMWSections.com also says that an European BMW might display the VIN on the right or left suspension turret in the engine bay. North American VINs consist of 17 characters that indicate the country and identity of the vehicle's manufacturer along with the vehicle's category, model year, assembly plant and other information, such as installed options, engine properties and transmission characteristics.
