Can vitiligo be permanently covered?

Skin depigmentation caused by vitiligo is sometimes permanently covered with tattooing, a form of micropigmentation. However, it is difficult for doctors to correctly match the patient's normal skin color, and the tattooed areas never tan like normal skin, warns Mayo Clinic. There is no true permanent cure for vitiligo.
Vitiligo is also treated with corticosteroids and vitamin D creams. Some patients also receive light or laser therapy. In severe cases, other patients resort to lightening their normal skin to match the depigmented areas, according to Mayo Clinic. Surgical techniques such as skin or blister grafting are also used to treat vitiligo.
