It is generally safe to wash a feather pillow in a washing machine if it does not have any openings and the stitching is not loose. It is best to refer to the manufacturer's washing instructions on the label when available, however.

If the manufacturer's washing instructions are not available, it is generally safe to wash an intact feather pillow in a front-loading machine on the "gentle" or "delicate" cycle. Using a special type of soap made for down, called "down soap," is also a good idea, as standard soap can strip the down of its natural protective oils. Diluted non-detergent soap is the next best choice, but bleach and fabric softeners should never be used.
