Because women do not have a prostate gland, they cannot get prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the second most-common type of cancer in men in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. An estimated 29,480 men are expected to die from the disease in 2014.
Around six out of 10 cases of prostate cancer occur in men over the age of 65. This type of cancer is very uncommon in men prior to age 40. One out of every seven men develops prostate cancer in his lifetime, and one man out of every 36 dies from it, notes the American Cancer Society.
