Canada does not have a president. The executive branch of the Canadian government consists of the Crown, who is represented by the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet.
Canada is a British commonwealth and the sitting British monarch acts as Canada's formal Head of State. This monarch, called the Crown or the Sovereign, is the Queen or King of Canada and is represented by the Governor General, or Viceroy. The Crown is head of both the legislative and executive branches of the Canadian government and is responsible for appointing the Prime Minister to lead the executive branch alone. The Prime Minister, in turn, suggests members of the Cabinet, who are appointed by the Governor General.
