Canola oil is one of the healthiest oils for the heart, according to WebMD.com. It is a good source of healthy unsaturated fats and contains less saturated fat than all other cooking oils used regularly in the U.S.
Using canola oil for cooking instead of other oils, such as olive oil, corn oil and sunflower oil, is a healthier alternative and helps lower cholesterol levels. Canola oil contains more of the omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid than other oils except flaxseed. Alpha-linolenic acid is shown to protect the heart because of its positive effects on lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and reducing inflammation.
