The Caprock Escarpment is a major geological feature found in the state of Texas that spans about 200 miles from the Texas Panhandle to near the Oklahoma state border. The Caprock Escarpment is technically considered to be hardpan, lithified calcrete, as opposed to rock.
The Caprock Escarpment comprises the transition between the High Plains and the North Central Plains. This geological feature also makes up the eastern border of Llano Estacado, or Staked Plain. The Caprock Escarpment is highly salient in the counties of Borden, Briscoe, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd and Motley in Texas. The highest elevation found throughout the Caprock Escarpment is 5,404 feet.
