Dictionary.com states that a castrated turkey is known as a hokie. This word can also be used as an adjective, as a synonym of "fake."
About.com states that the "hokie" or "hokiebird" is also the mascot of Virginia Tech. The mascot name was originally conceived in a poem written by a student. This poem was written in 1896 when the school decided to change its name to "Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute." At the time, the school also decided that it needed a new cheer along with the new name. The winning submission featured the stanza reading "hoki, hoki, hoki, hy," even though most of its "words" did not have any actual meaning.
