Dry and peeling eyelids may be a result of an irritation from cosmetics, such as eyeliner, foundation or eye shadow, according to EyeHealthWeb. Allergies to cosmetics, cleansers, shampoo and food may also cause eyelids to peel, itch and appear dry.
Underlying skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis or eyelid dermatitis, may also cause eyelids to peel and appear dry, according to EyeHealthWeb. In some cases, people may experience irritation with the eyelid as a result of atopic dermatitis, which is caused by airborne allergen, or eborrheic dermatitis and blepharitis, both skin ailments that are a result of bacteria or oils.
