What causes head throbbing?

Throbbing headaches can be caused by hangover, migraine headaches and caffeine withdrawal. The person may also feel a throbbing headache if he or she has stress or sinusitis. It is usually characterized by a feeling of pounding pressure in the head.
Most throbbing headaches, such as the one caused by a hungover, can become better on their own. However, if the condition is persistent, seeking medical attention may be necessary. A migraine headache may make a person experience other conditions, including nausea, change in vision and sensitivity to light. The throbbing tends to affect one side of the head then moves to the other side, as stated by MedlinePlus.
