Cayo Santa Maria is a small island north of Cuba. It is 10 miles long and 1.2 miles wide, and it is a part of the Villa Clara province. Visitors can only reach Cayo Santa Maria by airplane or by traveling over a 30-mile causeway.
Cayo Santa Maria is a protected Biosphere Reserve property, so visitors can enjoy touring pristine white sandy beaches and exploring mangrove swamps. As of April 2015, the island is home to the largest dolphinarium in Central America. This popular tourist attraction opened in 2011. Other available activities in Cayo Santa Maria include windsurfing, snorkeling and diving.
