Complete blood counts, or CBCs, can be used to detect blood and bone marrow cancer, according to Cancer.Net. This includes cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma.
Complete blood counts also detect other conditions, including anemia, infection and bleeding disorders, according to the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. Complete bloods counts evaluate the number of white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets in the blood.
Along with blood cancer, many other conditions can influence the production of blood cells. Therefore, a physician follows up with additional tests if cancer is suspected. This may include a bone marrow biopsy or a urine analysis, according to the Mayo Clinic.
