What is a CD ROM?

By Forinfos - 10/07/2025 - 0 comments

CD ROM refers to a type of compact disc that can only be read by a computer; its contents cannot be erased or altered. Due to this feature, CD ROMs have become a popular media format for storing retail features.

A CD ROM can store up to 700 MB of data. It utilizes a different recording method than its predecessor, the audio CD. Due to its larger storage capacity, CD ROMs quickly replaced floppy disks as the go-to medium for software distribution in the early 1990s. A CD ROM player is required to read data from a CD. Since all CD ROMs observe a standard format and size, any type of CD ROM can be loaded onto any type of CD ROM player.
