Celexa is possibly effective in treating anxiety disorder, but it can lead to worsening of the condition, notes Drugs.com. The primary use of Celexa is the treatment of depression, but doctors can prescribe it for anxiety disorders.
Also known as citalopram, Celexa is an antidepressant that can trigger thoughts of committing suicide in young people, explains Drugs.com. It is not advisable to give this drug to people under the age of 18 without a doctor's advice. It has a low starting dose of about 5 milligrams, though the effective dosage range is from 20 to 40 milligrams, according to the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry.
