A cell that lacks a nucleus is a prokaryotic cell. Prokaryotes are unicellular organisms that also are lacking other organelles typically found in eukaryotic cells, which do have a nucleus. The structures found in a prokaryotic cell are cell membrane, cell wall, cytoplasm, DNA and ribosomes.

These different structures are enclosed by a outer capsule. Other structures found in some of these cell types are pili, fimbriae and flagella. Bacteria, which are prokaryotic cells, can have these structures. The flagella are whip- like strands that are useful for locomotion. A bacterium uses the fimbriae, which are appendages, to attach itself to hosts.

The diameter size of prokaryotic cells can range from 0.1 to 5.0 micrometers. Prokaryotes reproduce through binary fission, a form of asexual reproduction.
