What cells line the ventricles of the brain?

Ependymal cells line the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. The cells also form the choroid plexus, a network of blood vessel cells in the walls of the two largest ventricles, the lateral ventricles.

Ependymal cells are a type of support cell known as neuroglia. They serve several functions in the central nervous system. Together with cilia, they help direct the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid in the cavities that they line. In the choroid plexus, their function is to produce cerebral spinal fluid. This is done by taking in water and other molecules from the blood to the cell.
