How does censorship affect people?

Censorship restricts one's freedom of speech and may cause anger and resentment against the body that implemented the censorship standards. Censorship can pertain to limiting the Web pages that someone can access on the Internet or not allowing a population to read certain books because of their content or author's actions.
Allowing the government or another officiating body to censor someone, even if does not have a direct effect, can be dangerous. The American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU, notes that censorship is like poison gas because as soon as the wind shifts, it can impact another person. Because of this, the ACLU states that censorship should not be allowed in any case.
