Centipede grass is a low growing turf grass with a medium texture. It is very dense and aggressive, and it has few weed problems. Because it produces only surface runners, it is easily kept out of flower beds, gardens and other areas where it is not desired.
Centipede grass is native to China and southeast Asia. It is available as seed, sod or plugs. Once established, centipede grass needs very little maintenance. It is resistant to most insects and diseases. It should be fertilized twice a year and watered when it shows signs of stress. The grass does best in areas with mild winters.
