To replace the light bulb in a GE microwave, unplug the microwave and remove the lamp compartment by removing the screws that hold it in place. Remove the light bulb by pressing down and turning counter-clockwise, and then use the same method to insert a new light bulb, turning it clockwise.

Replace the lamp compartment cover by screwing it back into the microwave. After plugging in the microwave, test the light bulb by opening the door. GE microwaves generally require 20- to 30-watt light bulbs.

If the lamp compartment cover is missing, GE suggests calling a trained technician to replace the light bulb.
