How do you change a fluorescent light bulb?

Replacing a fluorescent light bulb can be intimidating due to the size and shape of the bulbs. With a gentle touch, the task can be accomplished in just a short time.

1. Turn off power to the light

   If the bulbs are hot, allow them to cool.

2. Remove the light fixture cover

   The cover may be held on by screws or clips, or it may simply lift and slide out.

3. Remove the old bulb

   Holding the tube with both hands, gently turn it one-quarter, and pull it straight down. If the fixture contains more than one bulb, consider replacing them all at the same time to simplify maintenance.

4. Install the new bulb

   Link up the two prongs in the socket, gently push the tube upward and turn the tub one-quarter turn.

5. Reinstall the light fixture cover

   Replace the cover in the same manner as you removed it.
