What is the proper way to dispose of fluorescent light bulbs?
By Forinfos - 01/09/2025 - 0 comments
Most types of fluorescent light bulbs contain mercury and should only be disposed of at a recycling center or waste collection agency that accepts hazardous materials. Disposing of fluorescent bulbs and tubes with normal garbage risks releasing mercury into the environment and is prohibited by law in several states.
Some businesses, such as hardware stores, home and garden stores or stores that sell lighting fixtures, accept old bulbs for recycling, usually without charge. In addition, local garbage collection agencies sometimes have hazardous waste collection days once or twice a year when they accept fluorescent bulbs, batteries, old paint and other hazardous materials.
