To change the Wi-Fi channel, identify the address of your router via the ipconfig command, and modify the channel settings via your Web browser. Download and run a scanner utility, such as WifiInfoView, to determine which Wi-Fi channel is most suitable.
- Download and run WifiInfoView
Use your Web browser to open the NirSoft homepage. Click on the WifiInfoView link in the Utilities section, navigate to the bottom of the page, and click on the Download WifiInfoView link. To unpack the archive, use an archive-extraction utility, such as WinRAR or 7-Zip. Double-click the WifiInfoView executable file. Identify the channel number that is least used by other networks, and write it down.
- Determine the address of your router
Press the Start and R keys on your keyboard simultaneously. Type in “cmd,†and press Enter. In the command window, type “ipconfig.†Navigate to the Default Gateway section, and write down the address.
- Change the Wi-Fi channel
Open the settings window of your router by typing in the Default Gateway address into your browser’s address bar. The required option is typically located under the Basic Wireless Settings or Wireless Setup tabs. Once you locate the necessary settings tab, use the dropdown menu next to the Wireless Channel option, and select the channel you wrote down.
