Crabgrass, which is one of the most common yard weeds, is characterized by leaves that form a tight circle, appearing in bare spots of the yard. Another common yard weed, dandelions, feature yellow flowers and long taproots.

Ground ivy features stems that sprawl across the yard, much like ivy, while annual bluegrass blends in with fescue lawns. Oxalis have small, clover-like leaves that are light green that turn yellow in the summer and fall. Bindweed appears green and its leaves take the shape of arrowheads. Creeping Charlie features scalloped leaves that turn purple in the late spring while lambs-quarter also looks scalloped, but has a gray underside.
