Medium-density fiberboard, also known as MDF, is a composite material similar to particleboard that is made from wood fibers and resin. MDF is uniform, smooth and free from wood grain patterns.
MDF, which is a dense, stable substitute for solid wood, is frequently used to make kitchen cabinets and interior doors. It is made by cooking wood fibers from shavings or chips, which are then uniformly separated and bound together with heat and pressure. Cutting MDF requires high-quality tools and a dust mask. MDF is also known as Medite or furniture board and is typically supplied as 3/4-foot by 4-foot by 8-foot sheets.
