Whirlpool Corporation is run by a 12-member board of directors headed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jeff Fettig, as of 2015. Maytag has been owned by Whirlpool Corporation since 2006.

Whirlpool is the leading global manufacturer of home appliances. In 2014, the company had sales of $20 billion, and they have 12 brands that operate in over 170 countries.

The Maytag brand was founded by Frederic Louis Maytag in 1893 in the small town of Newton, Iowa. For many years, Newton was known as the "Washing Machine Capital of the World". As the appliance industry contracted in the first part of the 21st century, Maytag's fortunes rapidly took a downward spiral, and Whirlpool stepped in to buy them.
