How do you check Medicare eligibility?

You can check your eligibility for Medicare benefits by using the eligibility calculator located at the official Medicare.gov site. This online tool determines your eligibility and provides an estimate of your premiums.

Eligibility is largely restricted to U.S. citizens or lawful residents age 65 and older with an initial enrollment period (IEP) that begins three months before your 65th birthday and ends three months after.

Medicare is also available for U.S. citizens or lawful residents with disabilities or special conditions. Applicants who have Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or receive disability payments from the Railroad Retirement Board or Social Security may be eligible regardless of age.
