What are cherry angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are bright red benign skin growths. According to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center, cherry angiomas are harmless and generally do not need treatment.

Cherry angiomas can occur anywhere on the body, though they are most often found on the trunk. They can vary in size but are often less than 1/4 inch in diameter. They most often appear on the body after the age of 30. While cherry angiomas are noncancerous and do not cause harm, they may be removed if they are bleeding or for cosmetic reasons. The most common types of removal are laser, freezing, shave excision and electrosurgery. Removal typically does not cause scarring.
