In humans, the heart is located in the chest cavity, behind the breastbone, between the lungs and above the diaphragm. The human heart is the organ responsible for pumping oxygen and blood around the body.
On average, a human heart weighs 10.5 ounces; it's around the size of a clenched fist and is cone shaped. The human heart is made of cardiac muscle, which contracts the heart and regulates the heart beat.
Each day, a human heart beats about 100,000 times and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood around 60,000 miles of blood vessels to other organs and tissues in the body.
