Does chicken or beef have more protein?

According to the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, chicken has more protein than beef. While a 6-ounce steak has 42 grams of protein, the same amount of chicken breast has over 51 grams.
Though both beef and chicken are good sources of protein, the Mayo Clinic recommends selecting lean cuts. The leanest types of beef are round, chuck, sirloin and tenderloin. Beef that is identified as "Choice" or "Select" has less fat than cuts labeled "Prime." In chicken, skinless breast meat has the least fat. Ground beef and ground chicken have about the same amount of fat unless the poultry is skinless white meat.
