What are Chihuahuas?

According to the American Kennel Club, Chihuahuas are a small, intelligent breed of dog notable for their large ears and expressive eyes. Chihuahuas are named after the Mexican state in which they were first found. Some hold that the Chihuahua is descended from the Fennec fox, although this is untrue.
Chihuahuas come in many different colors and patterns. Their fur is usually short, although longer-haired varieties exist. They are even-tempered dogs and are suitable for families and young children. Chihuahuas, due to their diminutive size, may get cold easily. Most Chihuahuas require minimal grooming due to their short fur, but longer-haired ones may need intermittent brushing.
