Where do children dress up as witches for Easter?

Part of the traditional Easter celebrations in Finland includes the practice of children dressing as witches. This practice involves children traveling from door to door in their communities, giving out twigs in exchange for treats.

In this way, Finnish Easter can be said to be similar to the celebration of Halloween in the United States. The twigs are intended to be symbolic of the practice of driving away evil spirits. Though all children traditionally participate in this annual event, there may be more girl participants than boy participants. These Easter witches typically dress up in old clothing and paint their faces with freckle-like dots.
