What is a China marker used for?

China markers are used to write on slick or non-porous surfaces, such as glass, metal or plastic. They can also be used for art applications to prevent smearing during the sketching process.

Made of wax and sometimes referred to as grease or wax pencils, China markers often have a wood or paper casing. The wood variety requires a sharpener, knife or other tool to sharpen. Paper casings peel away in a spiral to uncover more of the wax. Similar to a crayon but more resilient, China markers can be removed from most surfaces with a paper towel or by rubbing the mark.
