What are chinchilla treats?

Chinchilla treats are foods that can be given to chinchillas in moderation. Foods such as grains, carrots and certain fruits can be given to chinchillas as treats. Other foods such as corn, chocolate and acidic fruits are considered unhealthy and should never be fed to chinchillas.
Most treats can be given to chinchillas once or twice a week. For example, raisins, bananas, apples and prunes can be given to chinchillas in small amounts a couple of times a week. Other treats such as nuts, seeds, burnt toast and alfalfa cubes should only be given to chinchillas once a week. Before giving a chinchilla any treat, always check the nutritional value for excessively high sugar content or too many carbohydrates.
