Do Chinese people eat cats?

Although the Chinese government has tried to put bans on eating cat meat, there are still a number of restaurants in China that serve cat. Although it is not accepted by Western cultures, cat meat is commonly sold and eaten in some Asian countries such as China, Vietnam and Korea.

The amount of people in China who eat cat meat is a very small minority, according to Professor Chang Jiwen from the Animal Protection Law Project. Typically, communities that eat cats are in very rural and poor areas, which makes bans difficult to enforce. While cat is seen as a traditional meal to some, the popularity of eating cat and dog meat is decreasing very quickly, suggests CNN.
