What do chipmunks eat?

Chipmunks enjoy a diet that consists of fruit, seeds, berries, grains and insects. All of the food that chipmunks eat can be found in their natural habitat of the forest.

Chipmunks are hibernating animals. They store food for use during the long months of hibernation. A large amount of food can be gathered and brought back to the nest in the chipmunk's generously large storage pouches, located inside their cheeks.

The small animal, which is part of the squirrel family, gathers foods that have already fallen to the ground. Scurrying under the bushes and shrubs that the food originated from keeps the chipmunk well hidden from predators while they hunt for food.
