What are chloroplasts made of?

A chloroplast is an organelle that performs photosynthesis. It contains an envelope, which is composed of an outer membrane, inner membrane and an intermembrane space between these layers. The stroma is located inside the envelope. A genome with ribosomes, RNAs, and chloroplast DNA is found in the stroma.

The products of photosynthesis generated by chloroplasts are then used by photosynthetic cells to make organic molecules. The sugar created is then exported to the nonphotosynthetic cells of the organism to meet its metabolic needs. Chloroplasts are one member of the plastid family of organelles and are present in all living plant cells.
