Does chocolate have bugs in it?
By Forinfos - 15/08/2025 - 0 comments
Most chocolate is contaminated with cockroach parts with an average of eight insect parts per chocolate bar. The United States Federal Food and Drug Administration allows up to 60 insect parts per 100 grams of chocolate.
Other foods commonly contaminated by cockroaches are peanut butter, macaroni, fruit, cheese, popcorn and wheat. Cockroaches infest crops and are difficult to get rid of without using excessive amounts of pesticide. The bug parts are safe for most people but may affect those with a history of allergies or asthma. People with allergies to cockroaches may experience migraines, cramps, itching and hives after eating chocolate containing the bugs.
