Chocolate is an unofficially recognized brown color of coat that occurs when specific recessive genes are expressed in the Great Dane. Great Danes are an extremely large breed of dog, capable of standing over 30 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing up to 200 pounds.
Despite its intimidating stature, the Great Dane is a gentle breed. Its affectionate and playful nature allows it to be a good presence around children. The bond a Great Dane forms with its master is strong, and these dogs are known to serve as excellent watchers of the house. Although one of the largest dog breeds, Great Danes are suited for apartment dwellings and need daily walks to fulfill their exercise requirements.
