Since Guinea is a Catholic nation, Christmas is celebrated on December 25 with typical Christian ceremonies throughout much of the country. However, some regions celebrate with other types of ceremonies.
Most Equatorial Guineans put up decorations like lights and Christmas trees to celebrate the holiday. In one part of the country, the Bioko region, families get together to celebrate throughout the cities with song and dance, and they exchange gifts on Christmas night. The dance performed on this night is called the balele.
Equatorial Guinea is a very religious nation. Besides Christmas, other celebrated religious holidays include Easter Holy Week and the Immaculate Conception Feast.
