Around 2 billion people worldwide celebrate Christmas every year. According to History.com, it has become one of the biggest holidays of the year in many countries, as it is now often celebrated by Christians and non-Christians alike. Nine out of 10 people celebrate Christmas in the United States.
While most of the world celebrates Christmas on Dec. 25., Orthodox Christians celebrate it on Jan. 7. The date of birth of Jesus Christ is not known, and these dates were chosen based on different theories. History.com states that some Christians refuse to celebrate Christmas because it has become a holiday driven primarily by gift-giving rather than its true meaning.
