What is chrome vanadium steel?

By Forinfos - 26/11/2025 - 0 comments

Chrome vanadium steel is a steel alloy to which chromium and vanadium have been added to increase durability, hardness, corrosion resistance and tensile strength. Vanadium makes the steel more hardenable through tempering; chromium helps protect the material against oxidation and corrosion.

Chrome vanadium steel excels in applications that require a high degree of resiliency and resistance to fatigue, such as continuous-use springs and tools. Ball bearing manufacturers use chrome vanadium steel because it resists corrosion, oxidation and abrasion. Chrome vanadium steel is produced in sheet, bar, rod and plate forms. The material is cold-drawn and heat-treated before fabrication so that it bears shock loads in elevated temperatures, making it useful for aerospace and military applications.
