Chromium (II) iodide has a molecular formula of CrI2 and is a long-lived, electronically neutral reagent chemical. It is a grey powder with a molecular mass of 305.80 grams and a melting point of 856 degrees Celsius.
Chromium (II) iodide is a water-soluble, inorganic solid of grey crystals. It is most likely used in the lab to prepare other chromium-based substances. A closely related compound is chromium (III) iodide, which is a black solid used to prepare other chromium compounds.
