According to The Migraine Trust, chronic migraines are migraine headaches that occur more than 15 days per month for a period of three months. There is no single cause for chronic migraines, but the headaches may be triggered by hormonal fluctuations, lack of sleep or caffeine consumption.
The Migraine Research Foundation explains that migraine headaches are most common in people between the ages of 25 and 55. Migraines affect approximately 36 million individuals in the United States, with 4 percent of sufferers experiencing chronic migraines. Symptoms of a migraine headache include severe head pain on one or both sides, sensitivity to light, queasiness, vomiting and dizziness.
