Where is the church of St. Mark located?

While there are many churches and cathedrals worldwide bearing the name of St. Mark, the most famous of them, known in English as St. Mark's Basilica, is located in Venice, Italy. It received its name because of its collection of relics attributed to St. Mark.

The construction of the current building was begun in A.D. 1063. St. Mark's Basilica was first consecrated in A.D. 832 by the ruler of Venice at the time, Doge Giovanni Partecipazio. Tours, which focus on the history of the building as well as the theological importance of the many mosaics and other art contained in the cathedral, are available through the Basilica.
