Central Park's perimeter measures 6 miles, or 9.6 kilometers. The park is bordered by Central Park West, Fifth Avenue, 59th Street and 110th Street. Central Park is the United States' first major landscaped public park.
A competition was held in 1858 to find a design for the park. Construction took 16 years and cost $14 million. This is equivalent to around $260 million in today's currency.
Central Park covers 843 acres in Manhattan, which includes 58 miles of paths and almost 9,000 benches. Within the park, there are 51 sculptures, and 36 bridges and arches. More than 25 million people visit the park each year.
