Where is citric acid found?

Citric acid is found naturally in some fruits and vegetables and in many processed foods as an additive. Citric acid is responsible for the tart taste of lemons and many soft drinks.

It is used to enhance the flavor of tart pie fillings and prepared fruit juices. Citric acid is used in many processed foods, such as gelatins and candies, to modulate acidity and also as a preservative in many food items.

Outside the food industry, citric acid is found in cleaning products to aid in cutting grease and lime.
