What city has the highest homeless population?

In the United States, New York City has the highest urban homeless population. According to the 2014 State of the Homeless report by Coalition for the Homeless, 53,615 people reported homelessness in January of 2014.

The number of men, women and children sleeping in New York City homeless shelters on any given night would fill the Yankee Stadium with standing room only. This is the highest ever recorded homeless population in NYC. In 2013 the number of homeless people living in shelters increased by 7 percent. In 2013, 111,000 New Yorkers, including 40,000 children, sought shelter services. The National Coalition for the Homeless is calling this a homeless crisis.
