Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is located in Bethesda, Maryland. Walter Reed is one of the nation's largest military medical centers. As of September 2015, it has a staff of approximately 8,500.

Walter Reed in its current form grew out of the 2011 merger of the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Walter Reed serves active duty service members, veterans and the President of the United States. Veterans wounded in combat receive care through the Wounded Warrior program. This program also provides lodging, transportation, clothing and other assistance to families of the wounded while they undergo treatment.
