How do you clean a Brita water pitcher?

Clean a Brita water pitcher with a mild soap and water cleanser on both the inside and outside of the pitcher, followed by a light rinse to remove any soapy residue. Thorough removal of the soapy mixture is needed to ensure that the water produced after cleaning does not taste of soap.
- Remove the filter
Remove the filter from the pitcher and set it aside for reuse after cleaning. If the filter system has filtered over 40 gallons of water, insert a new filter once cleaning is completed.
- Clean the pitcher
Make a liquid cleanser by combining warm water with mild detergent until the detergent suds up. Use a sponge to wash the interior and exterior of the filter with the cleanser. If the lid of the pitcher is made of chrome, then substitute a cup of water mixed with a teaspoon of white vinegar to clean the lid instead. Rinse off the soap by wiping the pitcher with a piece of cloth dampened in clean water.
- Dry the pitcher and the lid
Air dry the pitcher upside-down, to remove any water that has gotten into the coverings or handle. Replace the filter in the pitcher, and then replace the lid.
