How do you clean cloth diapers?

If you choose to use cloth diapers for your baby, it's important to clean them properly. Keep odors at bay and ensure that baby's diapers are sanitary by removing solids, rinsing diapers thoroughly, washing them on a hot automatic cycle, double rinsing them, then drying in sunshine if possible./
- Empty the solids
Empty any solid material into the toilet and flush. Store the diapers in a sealed, dry bucket. Don't store them in a wet pail, as this is a drowning hazard for your child.
- Rinse the dirty diapers
When it is time to wash the diapers, empty the pail into the washing machine. Most machines hold about two dozen diapers. Set the machine to warm, and allow it to fill. Let the diapers soak for at least 30 minutes before proceeding. Afterward, turn the machine to drain, and spin the excess water from the diapers.
- Wash the load
Set the machine to hot unless the diaper manufacturer recommends a cooler temperature. Add the recommended amount of a mild, fragrance-free detergent. Choose a detergent without fabric softener or enzymes.
- Double-rinse the diapers
If your machine allows for a second rinse, choose this cycle when washing diapers; otherwise, turn the dial and start a second rinse at the end of the cycle. If possible, both rinses should be with warm water.
- Dry the diapers
Hang the diapers on a clothesline to gain extra sterilization from the sunshine, or use a dryer on the lowest setting.
